A look back at our first 70 years
|
This year’s speakers were particularly topical. In addition to Eric Holder, SEC Commissioner Robert Jackson provided the opening address. J.D. Vance, New York Times best-selling author of Hillbilly Elegy, was our Thursday luncheon speaker. The following day, we explored the rise of “fake news” with Jennifer Kavanaugh, Associate Director, Strategy, Doctrine, and Resources Program, RAND Arroyo Center, and author of Truth Decay, An Initial Exploration of the Diminishing Role of Facts and Analysis in American Public Life.
On Saturday, we learned about recent developments in Delaware law from the Honorable Karen Valihura, Delaware Supreme Court Justice. Our other special guests included Steven A. Bank, Paul Hastings Professor of Business Law at UCLA who discussed international governance problems in the world of soccer. Finally, we closed with lunch speaker Kate Andersen Brower, author of best-seller The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, and the recently-published, First in Line: Presidents, Vice Presidents and the Pursuit of Power.
The National Conference is just one opportunity for the Society's 3,600+ members to make the most of the Society membership. In fact, the Society is the only place for corporate secretaries, general counsels, outside counsel and other governance professionals at public and private companies of all sizes to connect with others who are going through the same things and who share the same experiences. If you're not a member and would like to enjoy the networking opportunities, educational programs, news and publications and policy and advocacy work the Society does, click here to learn more and join now!
